Description:

 

Silane is a strong reducing agent, with heavy metal halide reaction, with chlorine, bromine explosion reaction, and carbon tetrachloride reaction. So the flon can not use flon fire extinguishing agent. Silane is insoluble in ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform and silicon tetrachloride. Not with the oil, fat reaction. Very non-corrosive to almost all metals. Sometimes, the alkali component of the glass can also decompose silane. Silanes dissolved in carbon disulfide can also explode with air.

4. Applications:

Several industrial and medical applications exist for silane and functionalized silanes.

 

1 silanes are used as coupling agents to adhere fibers such as glass fibers and carbon fibers to certain polymer matrices, stabilizing the composite material.
2 They can also be used to couple a bio-inert layer on a titanium implant.
3 Other applications include water repellents, masonry protection, control of graffiti, applying polycrystalline silicon layers on silicon wafers when manufacturing semiconductors, and sealants.
4 Silane is also used in supersonic combustion ramjets to initiate combustion in the compressed air stream. As it can burn using carbon dioxide as an oxidizer it is a candidate fuel for engines operating on Mars.
5 Silane and similar compounds containing Si—H bonds are used as reducing agents in organic and organometallic chemistry.
6 Silane methacrylates are used in dentistry as part of tooth-colored, composite filling material. Silane methacrylates act as a coupling agent between the hard, silicate-based, ceramic filler and the organic, resin-based oligomer matrix.
